Thumbnail A/B testsLast Updated: April 09, 2020
What is a thumbnail?
YouTube thumbnails are small clickable images that a viewer can click on to watch any given video of their choice.
Why are thumbnails important?
Many people will make an immediate decision about how they feel about your brand based solely on their first impression of your video, which initially is your thumbnail. Therefore, a top-quality custom video thumbnail is what will make your content stand out.
How does thumbnail A/B test work?
Two thumbnails of your choice are being tested during the 14-day period. Uploaded images will be changed each day automatically on your channel and, by the end of the test, you will get a thumbnail recommendation from tubics.
We do this by tapping into the YouTube API and directly changing the thumbnail of the chosen video each day at 12 am PST, and then let that thumbnail gather data the entire day. The next day, it’s changed to the other version, and so forth.
By the end of the test, we give you a thumbnail recommendation based on the "average percentage viewed" metric. Thumbnail that scores higher - wins.
You can run thumbnail A/B tests for different videos simultaneously.
