How to Add Subtitles and Captions to Your YouTube Videos

Subtitles and captions are essential tools for enhancing the accessibility of your YouTube videos. By adding subtitles and captions, you can make your content available to a broader audience, including viewers who are deaf or hard-of-hearing and those who speak different languages. This guide will walk you through the steps to create subtitles and captions for your videos using YouTube Studio.

 
 

Step 1: Access YouTube Studio

  1. Sign in to your YouTube account.
  1. Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen.
  1. From the dropdown menu, select "YouTube Studio."
 

Step 2: Open Subtitles Settings

In YouTube Studio, find and click on "Subtitles" in the left-hand menu.

 

Step 3: Choose the video

A list of your uploaded videos will appear. Select the video you want to add subtitles to by clicking on it.

 

Step 4: Add Language

  1. After selecting your video, click on "ADD LANGUAGE."
  1. A list of available languages will be displayed. Choose the language you want to add subtitles for.
 

Step 5: Add Subtitles/Captions

  1. Once you have chosen the language, locate the "subtitles" section.
  1. Click on "ADD" to begin adding subtitles for the selected language.
 

Step 6: Edit Subtitles/Captions (Optional)

  1. After adding subtitles, you can edit them for accuracy and readability.
  1. Click on the subtitle entry you wish to modify and make the necessary changes.
 

Step 7: Save Changes

After you have finished adding or editing subtitles, remember to click the "SAVE" button to save your changes.
